HOMAGE TO..BERGMAN AND ANTONIONI!
Great filmmakers Ingmar Bergman (Sweden) & Michelangelo Antonioni (Italy). |
It was a sad coi-in-cidene..two renowned filmmakers Ingmar Bergman (Sweden) and Michelangelo Antonioni (Italy) left the world on this same day..30th July, 2007. Today is their 12th Death Anniversary!
BERGMAN:
One of the most accomplished and influential auteurs of all
time..Ingmar Bergman's most famous films were 'Summer Interlude' (1951), 'Wild
Strawberries' (1957), 'Persona' (1966), 'Cries and Whispers' (1972)
& 'Fanny and Alexander' (1982).
Today I remember Bergman's
philosophical film 'Det Sjunde Inseglet' ('The Seventh Seal'/ 1957). More than sixty years completed this film focused on 'Life & Death' which
Bergman developed from his own play 'Wood Painting'!..In this protagonist
plays Chess with Mr. Death! Bengt Ekerot & Mox Von Sydow played the
roles!
ANTONIONI:
Best known for his trilogy on modernity and its discontents..'L'Avventura' (1960), 'La Notte' (1961) & 'L'Eclisse (1962)...Michelangelo Antonioni redefined the concept of narrative cinema!
Today I remember Antonioni's first colour film 'Il Deserto Rosso' (Red
Desert'/1964). Favourite heroine Monica Vitti acted this film was about a
woman trying to survive in the modern world of cultural neurosis and
existential doubt. Richard Harris, Carlo Chiorietti & Xenia Valderi
also acted in it. This film is famous for its scenic design..the work
largely takes place on industrial landscapes!
Homage to both the genius!
