WHEN I MET MICHELLE YEOH IN 'IFFI'

When saw news of pretty talented actress Michelle Yeoh won 'Best Actress' award in this '95th Oscars', I remembered nice meeting her in our 'IFFI'.. 'International Film Festival of India' held at Goa in 2013. Ang Lee's martial arts movie 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragaon' (2000) fame this Malaysian actress was there as chief guest in 'IFFI's closing ceremony!

Now Michelle Yeoh became the first Asian woman to win an 'Oscar' of 'Best Actress' for her multifaceted performance in Daniels' 'Oscar' winner sci-fi film 'Everything Everywhere All at Once' (2022).

MICHELLE YEOH..FIRST ASIAN WOMAN TO WIN 'OSCAR'S BEST ACTRESS!

American sci-fi comedy made by Daniels 'Everything Everywhere All at Once' won 7 awards including 'Best Picture' & for artists at '95th Oscars'! In these, Malaysian actress Michelle Yeoh became the first Asian woman to win an 'Oscar' of 'Best Actress' for her multifaceted performance!

In 1990s, Michelle Yeoh gained recognition while acting in series of Hong Kong action films where she did her own stunts! After moving to US, she achieved fame with.. starring in James Bond film 'Tomorrow - Never Dies' (1997) & in Taiwanese master Ang Lee's martial arts movie 'Crouching - Tiger, Hidden Dragaon' (2000), which won 'Oscar's 'Best Foreign Language Film'! Then she won many awards including best actress by various film critics associations during last two decades!

I met Michelle Yeoh in our 'International Film Festival of India' ('IFFI') held at Goa in 2013. She was there as chief guest with her produced documentary 'Pad Yatra'!

It's commendable that, our Indian Cinema made impact on 'Best Original Song' and 'Best Documentary Short' awards of this '95th Oscars'! Surprisingly, our both the genres..mainstream popular and offbeat social got the recognition in it!

"Naatu Naatu.." from film 'RRR' & 'The Elephant Whisperers'!

In this, current sensation "Naatu Naatu.." from S. S. Rajamouli's Telugu film 'RRR' won 'Best - Original Song'. Its Music Director M. M. Keeravani and Lyricist Chandrabose received these awards! This commercially hit film is a fictional versions of two Indian revolutionaries & their friendship. Its Stars Ramcharan and Jr. NTR were also present there. (I personally found "Naatu Naatu.." dance westernised!)

Then 'The Elephant Whisperers' won 'Best Documentary Short'. This film is about the bond develops between a couple and an orphaned baby elephant. It's a directorial debut of Kartiki Gonsalves. She received this award with producer Guneet Monga!

This 'Oscar' ceremony was also proud moment for our famous star Deepika Padukone who was one of the presenters there. She was seen emotional when "Natu.." song won!

It was nice meeting veteran Journalist & professor Mr. Kiran Thakur (famous as KT in students) in Alumni Meet at 'Ranade Institute' in the celebration of our 'Department of Communication and Journalism's (Pune University) 60th anniversary year!
