EXCLUSIVE!!!

BRITISH & AMERICAN CINEMA DOMINATE IN 'OSCAR'!

- Manoj Kulkarni

'Oscar' winner American 'The Shape Of Water' & it's director Guillermo De Toro!
In this '90th Oscar Awards' American fantasy (or as they call science fiction) film 'The Shape Of Water' won four awards including 'Best Picture' & 'Best Director (surprisingly) to Mexican Guillermo De Toro! And for film 'Darkest Hour'..'Best Actor' award gained by Gary Oldman who played the role of British Prime Minister Winston Churchill during II World War!..Such highlights showed the influence of British & American cinema in 'Oscar'!!
British actor Gary Oldman won 'Best Actor' for role as Churchill in 'Darkest Hour'!

American Sam Rockwell & Frances McDormand
won 'Oscars' for roles in 'Three Billboards..'!

Then American actress Frances McDormand won 'Best Actress' award for her (over dynamic) role  in 'Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri'..the film seems not much different from Hollywood (or Bollywood kind) style battle!..And so called (Pune-Mumbai) scholars praised it! (Her winning speech was also not normal!) 'Best Supporting Actor' award also went to Sam Rockwell of this film!
Meryl Streep in 'The Post'!

Legendary actress Meryl Streep was also nominated for Best Actress with her (sensibly acted) role in film 'The Post' on the first female publisher-editor of major American newspaper..which showed press & politics battle! I think after Orson Welles' classic 'Citizen Kane' (1941) such kind film came!
British camera person Roger Deakins won 'Best Cinematography'!

Important Best Cinematography award won by British camera person Roger Deakins for (nicely photographed) film 'Blade Runner 2049' which is mystery in genre. Same thing about 'Best Original Screenplay' award winner film 'Get Out' which is with old plot in horror style. Some awards are not upsetting like 'Best Editing' & 'Best Sound' to film 'Dunkirk'!
James Ivory won 'Best Adapted Screenplay'!

Veteran filmmaker James Ivory won 'Best Adapted Screenplay' award for film 'Call Me By Your Name' which is based on novel by an Egyptian writer Andre Aciman! Italian Luca Guadagnino directed this coming-of-age (odd) romantic film was also in the race of Best Picture!
'Best Foreign Language Film' award winner Chilean
'A Fantastic Woman's director Sebastian Lelio & Daniela Vega!

This time 'Best Foreign Language Film' award won by Chilean film 'A Fantastic Woman' directed by Sebastian Lelio! It's about a transgender singer faces scorn and discrimination after sudden death of her older boyfriend..in which Daniela Vega played this protagonist! But there was good sensitive Russian film 'Loveless' in the nomination..which was also deserving this award!

So that's the overall gist which reflect the facts!
Best Wishes to "OSCAR"!!
