Four years are over..one of the greatest artists of world cinema..French Actress Jeanne Moreau left this world!

Best known for her unique character in Francoise Truffaut's classic film 'Jules et Jim' (1962) Jeanne Moreau was the - intelligent complex star who lit up the French New Wave Cinema!

Daughter of French father and English mother who was a performing artist.. Jeanne Moreau began acting career on stage in 1947 and became leading actress of.. Comedie-Francaise! In 1949 she started appearing in films in small but notable parts!

Jeanne Moreau established as leading - actress with films 'Elevator to the Gallows' (1958) & 'The Lovers' (1959) directed by.. Louis Malle! Then she won 'Best Actress - Award' at Cannes Film Festival' for her role in 'Seven Days..Seven Nights' (1960). 

Her character in 'Viva Marial' (1965) also gained her 'BAFTA Award!

She also worked for other Art House film - makers like Michelangelo Antonioni (Italy), Rainer Werner Fassbinder (Germany) and Luis Bunuel (Spain). She was also vocalist & released her music albums..And performed with Frank Sinatra! She wrote, directed & produced few movies too!

In 1992 she won.. 'Cesar Award of Best Actress' for 'The Old Lady Who Walked In The Sea'. And in 2005 she got 'Stanislavsky Award' in the '27th - Moscow International Film Festival'. 

She won several life - time awards like.. tribute received from 'Academy of Motion Pictures'! But her - contribution to the French New Wave - Cinema is commendable!

I met Jeanne Moreau in our 'International Film Festival of India' held at New Delhi in 1996..She was in the Jury of that '27th IFFI'!
