Today is 65th Birthday of one of the prominent filmmakers of our.. Contemporary Indian Cinema..Gopala Ratnam Subramaniam known as.. Mani Ratnam!

Director-Screenwriter-Producer Mani Ratnam started working in..South Indian cinema with films like Kannada 'Pallavi Anu Pallavi (1983), Malayalam 'Unaru' (1984) and mainly Tamil like 'Pagal Nilavu', 'Idhaya Kovil' (1985).

Mani Ratnam established as a leading film maker after Tamil 'Mouna Ragam' (1986) & 'Nayakan' (1987) in which Kamal Hassan acted! His Telugu film 'Geethanjali' won multiple - awards & National too! After that 'Anjali' (1990) was India's submission for 'Oscar's Best Foreign Language Film!

He made powerful trilogy in Tamil & Hindi on the backdrop of terrorism & films includes in it.. 'Roja' (1992), 'Bombay' (1995) & 'Dil Se' (1998) which became very famous! After that his Hind films 'Yuva' (2004) and 'Guru' (2007) were also notable!

After 'Kadal' (2013), his Tamil movie 'OK Kadhal Kanmani' (2015) has been a huge success at box office. That was romantic drama about cohabiting couple! He revolutionized Tamil film industry!

In career spanning 4 decades he written-produced-directed about 40 films. He is accredited for launching stars like..music director A. R. Rahman with film..'Roja' - (Tamil/1992) and actress Aishwarya Rai

with film 'Iruvar' (Tamil/1997).

In 2002, Mani Ratnam was honoured with the 'Padma Shri' by our Government of India!

He won several awards including Filmfare & six National Film Awards! In addition to these, he is recipient of a number of awards at various inter- national film festivals where retrospectives of his films held!
