'CINEMA KESARI' BABURAO PAINTER!

Today is 131st Birth Anniversary of pioneer of artistic and realistic Indian cinema..Marathi filmmaker Baburao Painter!

Basically painter Baburao Krishnarao Mistry took profession name 'Painter'! He was a famous set designer! 

 

To make artistic films from his point of view he founded 'Maharashtra Film Company' in 1919! 

After first feature film 'Sairandhry' - (1920) he made silent films like.. 'Kichak Vadh' which talked much during pre-independence! Lokmanya Tilak named him as 'Cinema Kesari'!

Baburao Painter also acted in his films like 'Sinhagad' (1923) and 'Kalyan - Khajina' (1924).

 

He was screenwriter, cinematographer & costume-set designer of his films. 

 

After historical & mythological films like famous 'Maya Bazaar', he made film with social issue..'Savkari Pash' (1925) which was a first strong realistic Indian film!

He was a perfectionist filmmaker and his art direction was a high class which reflected in his films like 'Usha' (1935) and 'Pratibha' (1937). 

During his film career he made almost 30 - films. Unfortunately films are not available Only few photographs are there..like upside!
