Basically Dubey was a theatre person and wrote-directed plays. He received the 'Sangeet Natak Akademi Award'!

Dubey also worked for the films. He won 2 National Awards for Shyam Benegal's films includes.. Best Dialogue..'Junoon' (1978) & Best Screenplay-'Bhumika' (1980).

He was also honored with 'Padmabhushan'!
