TODAY..'UNISHE APRIL'!

Similar scenes of films..'Unishe April' (1994) & 'Autumn Sonata' (1978).

It's obvious to remember Bengali film 'Unishe April' on today 19th April!

Bengali Filmmaker Rituparno Ghosh
I have good memories of this film which was screened as opening of 'Indian Panorama' in our 'International Film Festival of India'(IFFI) held at New Delhi in 1996.

'Unishe April' was first film which its sensitive Bengali director Rituparno Ghosh wrote also. Before this, his debut film 'Hirer Angti' (1992) was based on a story by Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay. But 'Unishe April's plot was similar to renowned Swedish filmmaker Ingmar Bergman's classic 'Autumn Sonata'. That we discussed with Rituparno in press conference held at Siri Fort!

Renowned Swedish Filmmaker Ingmar Bergman!
'Unishe April' (1994) revolves around the relationship between famous classical dancer-mother and her sensitive daughter. Famous actresses Aparna Sen & Debashree Roy respectively did these roles sensibly! Whereas, original plot of Bergman's classic 'Autumn Sonata' (1978) revolved around the relationship between celebrated pianist & her neglected daughter. Legendary Ingrid Bergman and great actress Liv Ullmann respectively did these roles with their intense performances!

Anyway, 'Unishe April' won National Awards of Best Film and Best Actress to Debashree Roy!

Now it's 25 years old memory!
A Tribute!!
