FILMS ON HANDLOOM STRUGGLE!

Om Puri & Shabana Azmi in Hindi film 'Susman' (1987).

Yesterday was 'Handloom Day'. And I remembered two realistic films on this subject..

One was Shyam Benegal's Hindi film 'Susman' (1987) which focused on the struggle of rural handloom weavers in industrialization. In this Om Puri and Shabana Azmi gave their natural performances in the lead roles!

Another film was 'Kanchivaram' (2008) a Tamil remake of 'Susman'! Priyadarshan made this film depicted the poor situation of silk weavers in - Kanchipuram. Prakash Raj & Shriya Reddy did these roles powerfully!

Both the films were products of parallel cinema!
