Today is 61st birthday of one of the most popular actors of South-Indian Cinema..Malayalam Cinema's Superstar Mohanlal!

Mohanlal Viswanathan Nair at the age of 18 made his acting debut in Malayalam film 'Thiranottam' - (1978). But his first released was Fazil's romantic movie 'Manjil - Virinja Pookkal' (1980). Then he established himself as a lead actor Mohanlal!

He won his first 'Kerala State Film Award' for his performance in.. Sathyan Anthikad's movie 'T. P. - Balagopalan M.A.' in 1986. 

Then he won 'Best Actor National Award' for his role in film 'Bharatham' (1991) directed by Sibi Malayil! 

Mohanlal also acted in other south languages.. Tamil, Telugu & Kannada. In this his most notable role was in Tamil film 'Iruvar' (1997) a political drama directed by Mani Ratnam..and Miss World Aishwarya Ray did her screen debut in it with him!

Mohanlal also acted in Hindi cinema.

His memorable role was in 'Kala Pani' - (1996) directed by.. Priyadarshan! Then he gave his powerful performance in Ram Gopal Verma's movie 'Company' (2002). 

 

But he maintained his top reputation there in South Indian film industry! In 2013 he acted Jeethu Joseph's popular Malayalam film 'Drishyam' became the superhit. It was remade in other south - Indian languages & in Hindi too! He won 'Filmfare' award for best actor! In 2016 - his action Telugu film 'Janatha Garage' was also hit! In 2017 he did a powerful role in Malayalam war film '1971-Beyond Borders'!

Mohanlal became the only actor who won highest five national awards for his best performances..includes role in the film 'Vanaprastham' (1999) directed by Shaji N. - Karun! He also won 9 Kerala state awards and 8 Filmfare awards. And our Government of India honoured him with 'Padma Shri' in 2001 and 'Padma Bhushan' in 2019.

In a career spanning over four decades he has acted in over 340 films. He occasionally sung also! He owns the production company 'Pranavam Arts International'!
