as painter in Jacques Rivette's..

'La Belle Noiseuse' (1991).

Apart from french filmmakers..

he also acted in other European directors' films like..in Italian director Marco Bellocchio's 'A Leap in the Dark' (1980) he was Judge and won 'Best Actor' in 'Cannes film festival'. And his offbeat role with pretty Catherine Deneuve's bold character in Spanish director Luis Buuel's 'Belle De Jour' (1967) was notable! This won 'Best Film' at 'Venice Film Festival'!
