SPECIAL FOCUS ON FAVOURITE GENRE OF OUR CINEMA!


Bharat Bhushan & beautiful Suraiya in film 'Mirza Ghalib' (1954).

Yesterday I published second picture of earliest Muslim Social..Urdu film 'Pukar' (1939) made by legendary Sohrab Modi! And today's third picture is also from this great director's film!

Mirza Asadullah Baig Khan known by pen-name..Ghalib was a great Urdu and Persian Poet!

In 1954 Soharab Modi produced & directed 'Mirza Ghalib' a classic film on life of this legendary poet! India born.. Pakistani writer Saadat Hasan - Manto wrote story of this film & J. K. Nanda written the screenplay. Then Rajinder Singh Bedi wrote Urdu dialogues for it!

Known for costume dramas..Bharat Bhushan portrayed great character of Mirza Ghalib in this film and beautiful singer-actress Suraiya appeared as his courtesan lover! Murad, Nigar Sultana & Durga Khote also acted in this film.

Our first Prime Minister Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru praised 
performance of Suraiya in film 'Mirza Ghalib' (1954).
Music director Ghulam Mohammed composed the great Ghalib's ghazals sensibly in it..And Mohammed Rafi, Talat Mahmood & Suraiya sung these lovely! Like "Hai bas ke har ek unke..", "Phir mujhe deeda-e-tar.." and "Dil-e-nadan tujhe hua kya hya.." which touched the romantic hearts!

This critically acclaimed film won 'Filmfare' and two National Awards.. 
for Best Feature Film'! It was specially screened at Rashtrapati Bhavan! In that our first Prime Minister Pt. - Jawaharlal Nehru praised the singing performance of Suraiya by saying.. "You have bought back Ghalib to life!"

I, Urdu Shayari lover admire Ghalibsahab lot! And this film like Suraiya sung in it..
"Aah ko chahiye ek umr asar hone tak.."
