KALEIDOSCOPE OF FILMMAKER'S LIFE!


It's a sensitive film 'Abu' (father in Urdu) made in 2017 by Canada base.. Pakistani filmmaker Arshad Khan! An autobiographical film which he - wrote narrates his life from childhood to understanding his (late) father!

'Loaded Pictures' produced this documentary feature in which Arshad Khan showed how he grew up in traditional Muslim family of Pakistan then their experiences of immigrating to Canada and observations of changing social scenario.
 
In this he used old video footage of family programmes. Apart from that, he pictured contemporary visuals with cinematographers like Franck Coroller & Justin Black!

In this he brilliantly focused on the history of his nation. This includes..conservatism, liberalism to modernity! Notable that he also mentioned rise of fundamentalism after 2000! Apart from that, he also focused on pain of partition and elders' love towards birth land and his for homeland! Michael Robert Snow composed sensible background music for it!

In this he mainly showed the transition of individuals around and his! For that he has interestingly used some clippings of films, songs and animations with reference to his life events! This includes scenes of our Indian films like 'Guide', 'Pakeeza', 'Bobby' & 'Qayamat se qayamat tak' and American animated film 'Aladdin'! And songs visuals of Pakistani pop singers Nazia & Zoheb Hassan! Editor Etienne Gagnon has arranged all these material appropriately in this film!

Then for focusing "Gay" part he used animation which created by Davide Di Saro. He also referred the novel 'Maurice' & showed clip of 'Merchant - Ivory's English film based on it! And also used 'The Trial' film clip in explanation! It's like a self-discovery!

This film not restricted with the film maker only, but also shows father - son relation & family reconciliation efforts in general!

This film 'Abu' got international recognition and it won almost 15 awards at film festivals!
