LEGENDARY BENGALI ACTOR SOUMITRA CHATTERJEE

 

Today is 86th Birth Anniversary of legendary Bengali Actor Shoumitro - Chattopadhyay!

A most respectable Bengali film & stage actor known as.. Soumitra Chatterjee was famous for his association with great film maker Satyajit- Ray! From 'Apur - Sansar' (1959) to.. 'Ganashatru' (1989) he did 14 films with Manikda!

 

He also acted in movies of other filmmakers like Tapan Sinha ('Khudito Pashan'/1960), Mrinal Sen ('Akash Kusum'/1965) to Rituparno Ghosh ('Asukh'/1999).

He won many awards includes two National Awards. In 2004, he got 'Padma Bhushan' and in 2012, he was honoured with the.. 'Dadasaheb Phalake Award' by our the - Government of India! And in 2017, he was conferred with the France's highest - 'Commandeur de la Légion d' Honneur'!

I remember nice meetings to him during our international film festivals here long back!
